Entertaining Children at Your Wedding

It’s very easy to get wrapped up in all the planning for the wedding of your dreams and forget some of the smaller details. When you’re planning your romantic dance and you look into each others eyes do you really want a child screaming in the background of your wedding video or running in between you? Probably not.

As much as children are a major part of any wedding, you don’t want them to take the focus away from any of your intimate and tender moments with the usual sulks and tantrums. Consider hiring an entertainer or adding a special section with a fun menu just for the kids. The wedding day is very long and, through a small child’s eyes it is quite boring, that is until you cut into the cake! If your guests include children and your budget can afford it, show the kids you’re happy they could be a part of your special day by providing something fun for them to do!

An entertainer will keep them interested and amused with crafts, face painting (after the main photos have been taken!), designing t-shirts and caps, magic tricks, anything you can imagine. Your venue may even be able to provide you with a separate room to keep the entertainment quieter and the children don’t have to sit through all the ‘boring stuff’.

Talk to your caterer about a kid’s only menu with things like chicken fingers, mac-n-cheese, french fries, etc. Maybe add a chocolate fountain, party bags with crayons, small games, or a candy buffet to keep the kids happy (and some of the adults too). A chocolate fountain is always a nice addition to any wedding but it will definitely win over the kids if they have their own special treat to enjoy.

Having something for the children also means a few parents can relax and enjoy themselves to and it will make a real difference to the ambiance of your wedding day and especially how it is remembered in years to come.
